Tooth Extraction Hillsboro, Aloha, Forest Grove, OR

Out with the old, in with the new

Comfortable, worry-free tooth removal

At Smith Dental, we have a knack for saving teeth. However, when teeth are so badly decayed or broken beyond repair, the solution may be to extract them.

We have decades of experience with tooth extractions in our Hillsboro, Aloha, and Forest Grove offices. From simple removals to complex situations like impacted wisdom teeth, we offer comfortable, stress-free experiences and a plan to restore your smile afterward, too.

How does it work?

We prefer to save your natural teeth whenever possible — for example, through a root canal, crown, or filling. But there are some situations where it’s too late for a restorative treatment, such as:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Fractured or impacted tooth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Severe gum disease

You’ll be completely comfortable from start to finish. We numb the tooth and surrounding gum tissue with local anesthesia. We’ll gently loosen and remove the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the area for the best results.

how tooth extractions work at smith dental

Benefits of dental extraction

  • Removing severely damaged or infected teeth reduces bacteria and the chance of further damage to the mouth and surrounding tissue.
  • It can help with overcrowding issues that cause tooth misalignments in the smile.
  • Eases the pain brought on by broken or infected teeth almost immediately.

Dental extraction aftercare

We’ll do everything we can to speed your recovery and make it as easy as possible. We’ll provide detailed after-care instructions and prescribe pain medication.

  • Please follow our instructions.
  • Take your prescriptions as directed.
  • Eat soft, cold foods: smoothies, yogurt, pudding, ice cream, popsicles, and shakes.
  • Don’t drink through a straw until our dentists permit you to. The sucking action might cause clots to break loose and increase bleeding.
  • Call us if you have questions or experience severe pain.

What our patients say

I had all 4 wisdom teeth and 4 other teeth removed so I could get braces. Dr. Smith did all of my extractions. I didn’t have a single problem with them or the healing. He does all he can to make you feel comfortable!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is tooth extraction painful?

Having a tooth pulled might not sound very fun, but we’ll make sure you’re relaxed and don’t feel pain. Follow aftercare instructions to limit discomfort after the procedure.

Is tooth extraction considered a surgery?

We can very simply extract any tooth that is visible above your gums. If a tooth isn’t visible or is impacted, a surgical extraction may be necessary.

What happens after the extraction?

If the extraction leaves a space in your mouth that needs to be filled, we’ll talk to you about replacement options like implants or dentures.

How long does a tooth extraction take?

The timeline will vary widely depending on your needs. We’ll guide you through all relevant details at your appointment.

Can you save my tooth?

Removing a tooth is never our first option. Our team is dedicated to saving teeth and offers a variety of procedures to help you retain your natural teeth. If an extraction is the best option, we’ll explain why.
