Flossing Tips Aloha OR

If you recently made your twice-yearly trip to the dentist in Aloha, OR, and want to get the most out of your time spent looking after your oral hygiene at home, making sure that you are using the appropriate techniques for flossing your teeth can help. Try these tips to ensure that your floss time is keeping your teeth and gums as healthy as possible.

Be Sure to Begin with a Plan

It's easy to become complacent when you do the same thing every day. Develop healthy habits right from the get-go, and your efforts will pay off. Start on the upper or lower teeth all the way toward the back of the mouth and work your way around to the other side. Switch to your other jaw, working back to front and around toward the back again. You might be surprised to learn that people frequently miss the same areas repeatedly.

Floss Both Sides of Your Teeth

The small V-shaped gum tissue between the teeth is called the papilla. Be sure to floss both sides of the tooth on either side of the papilla, wrapping the floss around the tooth like a horseshoe to remove as much plaque from between the teeth as possible. Press the floss down only until the gum tissue resists so as not to cause any damage to the delicate tissue.

Use Fresh Floss for Each Tooth

When measuring your floss, use enough to switch to a clean section for each tooth. This way, you avoid moving bacteria around to new areas of the mouth. Using the correct type of floss can help too. Floss tape or ribbon will fit more comfortably between tightly spaced teeth, and most people with dentistry, such as fillings and crowns, should use waxed floss to prevent snagging their dental work.
